New Hampshire is no exception to G.O.P. control of the House

Joining a vast number of Republicans, an elated Charlie Bass takes back his comfortable seat in the House last night, despite Kuster being slightly ahead in the polls leading up to Election Day. One of the only New Hampshire elections that was still up in the air come Tuesday, the 2nd District was by no means a sweep for Bass; in fact he only defeated Kuster by three percentage points, an extremely close race by any measure.

But the numbers are not extremely significant, Bass holds NH2 regardless, and he seems confidant in his abilities. Last night he told supporters “Tomorrow we will begin to take America back”, staying true to his main campaign theme: fixing Washington with his vast experience. Bass didn’t ignore the hard fight of the Democrats in the district either, respectfully congratulated Annie Kuster for her “passion, commitment, and energy”.

Kuster no doubt was disappointed, she was up in the polls by as much as seven points just a few weeks ago, and it remained a tight race late into last night, but she held her head high in addressing fans after the loss. She thanked her supporters for proving that New Hampshire is a “purple state, [with] progressive Democrats, independents, and open-minded Republicans”.

  1. New England is generally perceived as a liberal region but clearly the wave of support for Republicans is pervasive all over the country. Hopefully for Bass he will be able to follow through on his Republican ideals. On a side note, it is nice to see the kind words from Bass for his opponent, considering how much negativity has impacted this election season.

  2. Kuster really seemed to give Bass a run for his money, only winning by 3 percent. As you mentioned in previous posts, Kuster did have more money and at times seemed to be the better choice. Perhaps the purple state voters of NH decided to give Bass another chance to seem what he could do with his party back in the majority.

  3. With only a slim margin giving Bass his victory, Bass must now show voters what he will do with another chance in office. Kuster seemed to steal many voters hearts throughout the election but voters must still see hope for Bass and his plans for NH. Maybe now that the Republicans have taken back the House, Bass will be more successful in following through with his plans. Hopefully Bass will not disappoint the people of NH!
