Closer than we thought...

With only about 3 weeks until the election, our candidates are caught in a tight race. Coming out of the primary, Charlie Bass had a steady eighteen-point lead over Annie Kuster; but that gap is starting to close, and critics are wondering whether Bass has slipped up in recent weeks.

Strangely, Bass doesn’t seem to be getting the sort of support and attention that was predicted earlier in the race. He seems to be the perfect candidate for this year’s race; an experienced, moderate Republican running during a Republican year, so what is going wrong?

For one, he isn’t campaigning as hard as Kuster, and has raised only about half of the $1.5 million that she has. Perhaps he was over confident in a Republican win, and as a “quasi-incumbent” thought that the name recognition he carried was enough. Or maybe his lead out of the primary gave him a false sense of security. Whatever it is, if he wants to regain his spot on the House of Representatives he better step it up.

Annie Kuster is a woman on a mission and is taking advantage of Bass’ hesitation to get her ideas out to the voters. She seems to have overcome the problem of name recognition that comes with running against a former six term U.S. Rep and is in the middle of her “30 Dinners in 30 Days” campaign. Her approach of sitting down to dinner with the people of Hew Hampshire to “talk with them about how [she] can create jobs, fix Washington, and put people back to work” seems to be working, she was trailing Bass by only five points in the beginning of the month.

  1. I have to say that Kuster is definitely thinking outside of the box at increasing her name recognition. I think that her "30 Dinners in 30 Days" is a great way to reach out to voters and the people of New Hampshire. If i was an undecided voter and one of the candidates was willing to spend her time to sit down and talk to me about her ideas and thoughts for change, i would definitely be impacted by her determination to reach out to the people. All candidates in every election have been spending a significant amount of money and time on attack ads to try and sway voters. Although this may be happening between Kuster and Bass as well, i think that Kuster's different approach will definitely stand out and make a difference in election results!
